Managing Farm Waste Responsibly

Managing Farm Waste Responsibly

ABGC is aware that natural disasters – particularly floods – can devastate banana farms and cause waste, including plants, to wash into waterways. While these events are outside growers’ control, it’s important to note that banana growers are committed to protecting the environment. Our growers and their families value clean Wet Tropics creeks for fishing, swimming, and recreation, and do not intentionally pollute them.

ABGC continues to collaborate on research and development projects to reduce and better manage plastic farm waste. These projects aim to deliver practical, on-farm solutions that support both productivity and environmental stewardship.

We encourage all growers to:

  • Secure and store loose bags and materials on-farm.

  • Dispose of waste responsibly through the correct channels.
