OUR TEAM

THE AUSTRALIAN BANANA GROWERS’ COUNCIL HAS AN EIGHT DIRECTOR BOARD WITH REPRESENTATIVES FROM QUEENSLAND, NEW SOUTH WALES AND WESTERN AUSTRALIA. OPERATIONAL STAFF ARE BASED IN FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND, SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND AND NORTHERN NEW SOUTH WALES.

Leon Collins

Chair

Based in Queensland, Leon Collins runs one of the largest banana businesses in the country, family-owned since they started growing the fruit in 1971. In addition to bananas, he farms sugar, cattle and avocados on his properties at Tully and Lakeland.

Stephen Lowe

Deputy Chair

Stephen Lowe has served on the ABGC board for the better part of a decade, including six years as Chair. He's been farming bananas in the Tully Valley for thirty years.

Treasurer

Fourth generation Atherton Tablelands farmer Andrew Serra has a background in construction project management and has served in various industry roles.

How to become an ABGC Board Member

To be eligible as a board member, a commercial banana grower member must own or operate a commercial banana growing business and must have been remitting the voluntary membership fee to ABGC for at least 12 months prior to nomination for election as a director.

Those wishing to nominate as a director must obtain the signature of another ABGC grower member with a banana growing business in the same state or territory as the grower being nominated.

Board members are elected at the Annual General Meeting held in late November or early December each year.
