DAFF confirms timing for technical visit

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s technical visit to the Philippines has now been confirmed for late March 2026. This is still subject to change pending any unforeseen circumstances. The technical visit was initially scheduled for late 2025, but had to be delayed due to extreme weather. It is one of several avenues that inform the imports risk assessment.

ABGC successfully advocated for a banana production expert to be part of this delegation. ABGC also hosted the technical team in Far North Queensland to ensure they were familiar with Australian production standards.

Media release shows growers are taking action

Australia’s banana growers are putting their money where their mouth is in 2026, signing up to make voluntary contributions to the Banana Imports Fighting Fund (BIFF) as the industry continues its biosecurity battle.

This was the message sent out to media earlier this month, showing just how seriously industry is taking this threat.

Are you backing the BIFF?

As of 1 January, the Banana Imports Committee is accepting voluntary contributions to the BIFF (Banana Imports Fighting Fund) at 0.5c per kilogram (half a cent).

Funds go directly to marketing, advocacy, research and expertise for this cause. There’s no prize for coming second when it comes to biosecurity, and every contribution helps us deliver a strong, science-backed message.

If you’ve got questions about the BIFF, or about the Banana Imports Committee, check out the FAQ below.

Write to your MP

Growers can download a template at any time to share concerns with their local MP. This supports ABGC advocacy and ensures the issue is front-of-mind for decision makers.

Be part of the team

ABGC Members get exclusive insights into the imports campaign. More than that, membership shows we have a united, strong industry here in Australia – one that will defend itself from potentially devastating pests and diseases.
