How do farming systems influence disease risk?
The Queensland Department of Primary Industries invites growers, researchers, industry advisors and stakeholders to attend the next webinar in its Fusarium wilt TR4 knowledge-sharing series: Banana Systems Under Pressure.
This webinar explores a critical question: How do farming systems influence disease risk?
Building on the previous session, which examined why TR4 is biologically difficult to control, this webinar shifts the focus to production systems and vulnerability. Participants will gain insights into how farming practices and system design can influence the introduction, establishment, spread and long-term impact of Fusarium wilt.
The session will examine why some banana production systems are more vulnerable than others and explore factors that contribute to resilience. Key topics include monoculture, genetic uniformity, soil management, input use, biosecurity practices, economic pressures and decision-making constraints that can create conditions for TR4 to become a significant production challenge.
