Australian Bananas (Hort Innovation) brought back the Banana Gym Pass this week (Wed October 7), a fun national campaign that encouraged Australians to get moving and enjoy the natural energy of bananas.

The Australian Banana Growers’ Council (ABGC) has welcomed calls for stronger measures to prevent goods linked to modern slavery from entering Australia, saying consistent standards are essential for fair competition and responsible supply chains.

Close to 100 politicians, political staffers and advisors met Australian banana growers at Parliament House, putting biosecurity, regional communities and the future of our industry directly in front of federal decision makers. 

Members of the Australian Banana Growers’ Council should have now received notice for the 2026 AGM, to be held in Tully next month (November).

Banana growers can now explore their industry’s investment priorities, current projects and future opportunities through a new digital tool launched by Hort Innovation. 

A new round of the Australian Government’s On Farm Connectivity Program is now open, with $10 million available to help eligible primary producers purchase connected farm equipment and technology. 

As temperatures increase and conditions become more favourable for yellow Sigatoka development, now is the time for growers to review their disease management strategies. 

Interested in reducing feral pig impacts on your farm? Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s aerial culling program is planned for late Oct/early Nov. ABGC is seeking interest to support a coordinated approach to reducing feral pigs.  

After more than 2,500 mm of rain this wet season in the Johnstone Catchment, the concrete erosion mats installed through the Banana Best Practice Fund have held firm across all three trial farms in the Johnstone Catchment. 

The Far North Queensland family business behind the distinctive Red Tip Eco Banana is taking the point of difference into Japan, as Pacific Coast Eco Bananas builds its next major export opportunity.
