Member Pulse Check: Fuel, Fertiliser & Plastics

Martin Buchanan of Russell River Packing Pty Ltd has recently been rewarded with a BCF voucher, thanks to his contributions to ABGC’s recent member ‘Pulse Check’ survey. His name was pulled out of the draw from those members who responded to all questions via the recent series of industry Pulse Checks.

The Australian Banana Growers’ Council (ABGC) is trialling a new way of engaging members and obtaining critical information to inform our advocacy initiatives. ABGC has been rolling out Pulse Check questions via SMS with members to capture real-time information regarding the on-farm impacts of the rising costs of fuel, fertiliser and plastics.

Members were asked to provide feedback across three questions:

  • What is your biggest current concern relating to fuel, fertiliser or plastics costs and supply?
  • How strongly are increased costs affecting your business?
  • How long can your business manage current prices before viability is seriously affected?

The responses collected through this member-only survey are being aggregated and compiled into an industry snapshot.  The feedback helps strengthen the ABGC’s advocacy initiatives by providing valuable evidence to inform discussions with government, industry stakeholders and other decision makers.

“This evidence is so important as it gives decision makers something tangible to work from and helps better inform their decisions and how they navigate the issues at a high level moving forward,” said ABGC’s Member & Advocacy Manager Kathryn Dryden.

ABGC welcomes additional feedback and encourages members to complete the survey if you haven’t already.
