PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE:
Extension Officer in the Best Management Practice Team.
HOW HAS YOUR ROLE HAD IMPACT FOR GROWERS?
I assist growers in all topics relating to the Best Management Practices and help them navigate the Reef Regulation Requirements.
YOUR BACKGROUND:
I completed my Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Agronomy in Switzerland before moving to Australia. I joined the Pest and Disease team at Sugar Research Australia, where I was responsible for resistance trials and worked in the pathology laboratory. I later worked with the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) in the Paddock to Reef Modelling and Monitoring team, assisting with a water quality runoff trial in bananas at the South Johnstone Research Station. It was in this role that I gained a strong appreciation for the importance and complexity of water quality runoff in the banana industry. This experience sparked my passion for working closely with growers, understanding their realities and supporting them to navigate the systems and requirements that aim to improve water quality outcomes.
