Phosphorus R&D

Phosphorus Fertiliser Management

Phosphorus fertiliser management of bananas has received little attention in the past. The result is that phosphorus application rates have generally remained unchanged since the 1990s.

A recent project run by North Queensland scientists, John Armour and Rob Lait, has examined ways for the industry to save money on phosphorus fertiliser. An important additional benefit will be reduced environmental impacts. This is based on the simple fact that ‘the more you add, the more you lose’.
