Guide for Banana Growers on COVID-19

National Banana Day (Friday)

Marketing Update

Guide for Banana Growers on COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic and the measures to contain it have potential to significantly impact your banana farm business.

To assist, ABGC has created a new downloadable Guide for Banana Growers on COVID-19 (Guide) which provides advice to growers on how to mitigate the risks and other important information.

View and print it here

ABGC has compiled this based on COVID-19 information available from on-going meetings with Federal and State Government representatives, and with the National Farmers Federation (NFF) Horticulture Council.

ABGC is also involved with several Government working groups which are developing practical solutions to COVID-19 issues facing growers.

This information is provided as current best-practice guide only. It does not constitute legal advice, or advice from a qualified medical professional. The purpose of this Guide is to provide one central source of information.

As the situation continues to evolve, the Guide may need to be updated.

ABGC will continue to provide regular updates on our COVID-19 page on the website and via e-bulletins.

National Banana Day (Friday)

COVID may be spoiling a lot of parties lately, but it won’t be putting a dampener on National Banana Day to be held this Friday.

A day dedicated to celebrating the Australian banana industry kicked off early, with the launch yesterday of a Banana Bread Bake-Off competition to crown the nation’s best banana bread recipe.

Keen bakers from across the country are invited to enter, and be in the running to claim bragging rights of perfecting the nation’s favourite bake, plus win some banana merchandise. Read more here

With everyone spending more time at home and looking for inspiration to keep the little ones at bay, now is the perfect time to turn the oven on and peel those ‘na na’s.

To find out how to enter, visit the Australian Bananas Facebook page here

Media celebrities including Australian Bananas Ambassadors Billy Slater and Susie Burrell as well as Sam Wood and Jules Robinson, have jumped on board to help celebrate National Banana Day.

Sam is an excellent media talent, and he has a great following with 271K Instagram following and 315K on Facebook

Billy Slater will be doing a special banana workout on the morning of May 1. Tune in on Instagram @b1slater

To be involved, share the @australianbananas posts on your own social media channels and #nationalbananaday2020

Any growers who’d be happy to feature on the Australian Bananas social pages on the day, please share or upload a photo or a video (wishing everyone a ‘happy national banana day!’) with the #nationalbananaday2020 or email to tate.connolly@horticulture.com.au

Social Media

The current ‘always on’ social media strategy has been upweighted in spend, with more consumers spending time online. Australian Bananas are also promoting the Australian Bananas activity pack.
