Weather alert for NQ Growers

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has advised the ABGC of the potential for severe weather to affect northern QLD banana growing areas later this week. Advice as follows:

* On Thursday, severe thunderstorms are possible across northern QLD banana growing areas. Damaging wind gusts (>90 km/h) and heavy rainfall are a risk with severe thunderstorms.

* On Friday, severe thunderstorms are possible over the same area. Given the longer lead-time, this is subject to higher uncertainty.

*Thunderstorms are also possible on Wednesday, however are not expected to be severe.

* Due to the isolated nature of thunderstorms, damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall may occur in some areas while other nearby locations remain unaffected.

ABGC will advise growers of any new forecast updates from the BOM on this potential severe weather event as soon as they come to hand.
