More than 70 banana growers and Australian Banana Growers’ Council (ABGC) affiliate members came together in Innisfail last week to discuss two of the most significant issues facing the industry: Panama disease Tropical Race 4 (Panama TR4) and the Australian Government’s review of biosecurity requirements for fresh banana imports from the Philippines.
The Grower Forum provided an opportunity to hear the latest updates, ask questions and discuss how the industry can work together to protect the future of Australian banana growing.
Strong on-farm biosecurity, continued TR4 surveillance and a united industry response to the proposed import arrangements were key themes throughout the forum. Growers also heard about the importance of supporting the Banana Imports Fighting Fund (BIFF) and adding their voices to the industry’s advocacy efforts.
The strong turnout and engagement demonstrated the commitment across the growing community to stand together on issues critical to the future of the Australian banana industry.
