Cassowary Coast Regional Council is planning an aerial feral pig control program for late October to early November, and ABGC is working closely with Council to help banana growers participate.
Feral pigs are a significant environmental pest. They also pose a biosecurity risk by moving soil and organic material between properties, contributing to the spread of Panama TR4. A coordinated, region-wide approach is the most effective way to reduce feral pig populations and minimise their impact.
Last year, more than 20 growers participated in the program, with grower costs being less than $85 per property.
